39 – Spurred to Action

Since I don't have anything to blog about, feel free to ask questions about making a comic. Like what it's like working with a writer as an artist or vice versa.? Or how to draw/color something? Our thoughts on a certain comic book/web comic? Also it's a new month, so don't forget to vote for us on TopWebComics!

  1. Hi Dawn,
So, I have an artist and an almost complete story line. What software do you recommend I use to create a website like Z ranch? My computer skills are pretty limited but I am a fast learner. Secondly, sometimes your art looks like it was done with marker and other times with computer graphics. Which is it? Either way it looks amazing?

    1. Heh, thanks for the artistic praise. I am far from being an egotistical artist and always see the flaws in my artwork.

I use comicpress for Zombie Ranch, though it’s not really for those not savy with HTML/CSS/PHP and can be a bit confusing/frustrating to work with. If you’re just starting out and have a low budget, I would go ahead and use free web comic hosting sites. You’re limited on what you can do, have advertisement and have limited space to upload your comic – but it can be a good starting ground and quick to set up. Plus it gives you more time to focus on your comic – you wouldn’t believe the amount of time I’ve spent working on this website.
Plus there are usually payment options to upgrade your comic’s space and give it other features when you feel your web comic is ready for them.
One service that I know of is Smack Jeeves that my friend uses to host her web comic Toilet Genie. It looks nice and has decent features for a beginning webcomic.

Hope this helped and be sure to share your comic if you get it started.

  2. Ooops! That last line is not a question your art is amazing!

  3. Is Suzie’s revolver a 5-shooter instead of a 6-shooter, or is that just a trick of the light? 😀
