173 – A Bang And A Whimper

Has this made things right? To witness that poor little man on his knees, it doesn't seem that way... but at least the fighting has stopped as Muriel plunges to her watery grave. The law will no doubt forgive Eustace for the execution. He may even eventually forgive himself. As for the rest, that remains to be seen... On a lighter note, we've opened up an Etsy store for our "parent label" of Lab Reject Studios, through which we'll be selling some select Zombie Ranch merchandise! Remember that adorably puffy version of Popcorn we were floating around as a plushie concept? Well, we still unfortunately haven't figured out an economical way to bring the plushies to reality, but Dawn's put together a nice little pendant featuring her drawing as one of our first offerings.

  1. All I can say is: Good riddance! 😉

I wonder how they’ll deal with all those Zeds on the loose, though…

  2. Dang. That’s rough.

  3. Wow. Just perfect.
The poses. The “bang”, the facial expressions….
This has to be one of my favourite updates.
The last panel shows the characters expressions so well through body language.
    Keep it up!

  4. aww poor Eustace 🙁

  5. I feel sorry for Eustace; for anyone who has to “put down” a family member. Well, at least a few people will mourn for Muriel…not me, though. 😀

  6. Finally. Thank you Eustace for coming to your senses and realizing she was no good. Now hopefully the family can move on and repair the damage done to the ranch.

  7. 🙂 Bullseye!!

  8. Just wanted to say thanks for the compliments, both direct and indirect. Dawn worked especially hard getting that last panel put together, and I count the feelings invoked for the characters as a success, particularly when your reactions are running anywhere on the mix from joy to relief to sadness.

It’s a simple moment. But also, ideally, a complicated one.

  9. Arrived late to this after spotting your tvtropes page, and have just spent the afternoon on an archive binge. Bravo! I’ve enjoyed this enormously, and it’s more than just what’s on the page. Thinking through the implications of how the rest of the world must be is going to provide me with entertainment for weeks: always the hallmark of excellent world-building.

    1. Far as I’m concerned there’s no such thing as arriving late, as you proved with your archive dive. 🙂 I’m also impressed we tore your attention away from TV Tropes, at least temporarily.

Glad you could join us, and it’s always good to hear the setting is as intriguing to others as it is to me. Otherwise I’d just be a crazy man shoving weird comic scripts at my wife for her to draw. Actually that’s probably still true, but at least I’m a crazy man with an audience.

  10. Poor Eustace, this must be a hugely conflicting time for him. On one hand he just killed his wife, who he clearly loved and feared very much. On another hand she WAS bit. and on the last hand, she was also his abuser. He’s gotta be pretty fucked up right now
