Yelling at Eustace has to be somewhat like yelling at a sad little puppy, where you feel like you've got to scold it but it still makes you feel awful to see it cringe. Still, it's probably a good thing for the McCartys that Suzie left Frank in charge of the particulars of the exile or there might not be any food or water involved, much less letting them take their surviving tractor with them.

    well she has used a torch long enough to know when one has been used to cut wires or not

    I’m thinking that it is not so much that a torch was used to do the cutting. Any idiot can cut through some cable with one and that girl was a classic example of idiot. The thing is where it was cut may have required a whole lot more thought and knowledge on how things work than this particular idiot was capable of.
