59 – Over a Barrel

It was a tradition to get a game system for Christmas when I was a kid. That game system was to be shared between me and my brother. Eventually it was only when a new game system would come out, otherwise it was a game. I continue this tradition, except for the part where I share it with my brother. He lives about 120 miles away, it would be a little hectic if we still shared a game system. So now my husband has taken the responsibility of taking his gaming place, it's such a "terrible" job. This year I didn't get a new game system, but I did get a Kinect for the Xbox 360. It's not easy for me to spoil myself, I'm just not the type of person to say "I worked hard all week and deserve a treat, I'm buying that art pad I've been wanting", I have to have a reason to buy it. I also have to have reassurance that it's okay to buy it…sort of trying to convince myself it's okay to buy. So I usually say to Clint: Dawn: I think I'm going to buy a Kinect with the Amazon giftcard I got for Christmas. Clint: Hmmm (writing Zombie Ranch script on computer) Dawn: It'll help me move around more and lose weight. Clint: Okay (still writing script) When in reality I want it because it's the closest I'll ever come to being a Jedi and using the force. Anyone that owns a Kinect knows what I'm talking about…I've spent a while moving the screen choices about on the Kinect menu screen in a Jedi like fashion. But so far I've had it for about 5 days. I only have two games; Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports. Both have reminded me that I am really out of shape and not as young as I once was as I sweat/pant after about 15 minutes of playing. Hopefully the next convention you see me at, I'll have lost atlas 10lbs. I am renting Dance Central from Gamefly for one reason only…to make a complete fool of myself on my birthday. It's like Karaoke (which I am horrifically horrible at) for the body, a select few are good at it while the rest of us are like a car wreck. I have studied martial arts since I was a kid, won 3rd place in a tournament, and have fought 3 opponents at once…but I can't dance worth anything. Not a lick of dance talent at all. As a kid, I did learn Country Line dancing. Which will do no help in playing Dance Central…unless they have me dance to Achy Breaky Heart.

  1. Hello, goat!

Also, I can totally relate to the line-dancing thing.

    1. Line Dance Central for Kinect. We can Electric Slide and Star Step till the virtual cows come home.

Okay, now I want to line dance. One of my few guilty pleasure.

  2. If they made a Jedi Simulator that actually worked well as a Kinect game, I might actually buy the Xbox 360 for it ;D Same with Move for the Ps3…

Game makers, if you’re reading this, if you can make someone feel like a Jedi while playing on your system, and they can actually act it out, you’ve won video games. There’s a bazillion more people like that Jedi Kid from the Youtube of days gone by who would be more than happy to pay money in order to be able to make a complete fool of themselves for just the very taste of being Jedi-ish… Throw in movement specifics for Jedi Mind Tricks and other non-lightsaber-y goodness on top of a decently lightsaber sim, and a KotOR-esque story, and you’d be sitting on a gold mine. Seriously. It’d be more lucrative than EA’s sports games. You could still exploit that LONG after Lucas has joined Yoda, Anakin and Obi-wan in the sky.

    1. It wouldn’t have to be a dramatic storyline. I mean Star Wars legos was a big hit. Just let me use the force, maybe extend my right hand 45º to force grab my lightsaber and then go all Star Wars Kid all over the Sith’ing place. And do the same to put the lightsaber and use the force to move stuff and toss enemies. It would be brilliant!

Though if it had KOTOR sort of story, I would happily go to the dark side for cookies.

  3. For what it’s worth, my friend who works for Microsoft absolutely agrees that “The Force” is the killer app for the Kinect.

Unfortunately he doesn’t actually work in the games division, but seriously, how can anyone NOT see it? Money just waiting to be harvested from a legion of geeks (and closet geeks, for that matter).

  4. Zombie goat! 8D to be sure. looks normal in the closeup, but just wait… it will nom you.

  5. This comic is awesome! So unique! Please update soon!

  6. I think you need to get Clint to take you country line dancing. 🙂

  7. Andrew — I’ll just get Brian to do it. He can dress up like Amy’s dad from Futurama.

BlackAlucard — Thank you! Tune in next Wednedsay 🙂
