201 – Start Of Darkness

It's much easier for the Safe Zone kiddies to make fun of the name, isn't it? I guess high walls and armed security forces will do that for you. Not quite 100 comic pages apart, we've come to our second specific "anchor point" inspired by a real world location. Fort Huachuca in our day and age is both an active military post and part of the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, with a storied timeline that has roots straight out of the Old West. In the Weird New West of Zombie Ranch, that distinguished past did not, alas, shield it from a darker future...

  1. I can’t WAIT to hear this story. The detail you guys have put into the formation and the present of the Weird New West is amazing! Plus, the Huachucas have been giving me the wiggins since their first shadowy appearance, so I’m super excited to see more of them.

  2. I am already wishing we were next Wednesday! 😀

  3. I guessing from the girls in the first panel that Hot Topic somehow survived the Zombie Apocalypse… damnit.

  4. Hot Topic: the cockroach of outlet stores…

And thank you everyone, hearing the eagerness makes all my hours of research seem worthwhile. 🙂

  5. I’m thinking “safety and security” is another way of saying “‘Come into my parlor’, said the spider to the fly.” 😀

  6. Thinking back to the transmission in 28 Days Later

  7. Those who come seeking safety will become sausage, or bacon, or chops; however you can butcher and dress Long Pig meat.

  8. Huachuca…how does one even pronounce that? Just curious considering the comment that it’s a silly name.

  9. As hinted at by the second girl’s interruption in the first panel, it really is pronounced like you might be starting to sneeze: “Wah-CHOO-kuh”
