66 – Talking Crap

Taking art classes again...well one class. To be more specific, a Life Drawing class. That's right, I'm drawing naked people. Which I use to joke around with an old doctor buddy of mine that her and I can look at a naked body and go into work mode. She would feel a need to get out a stethoscope and I would grumble and look for my drawing pad. Why am I taking a life drawing class? One tip that I got from a talented comic artist once was "You can never take too many Life Drawing classes". It's true that my friends help model for me (not in the nude) for certain poses for this comic and other drawings, but I don't have someone there to help me point out my weak areas. I've had people give tips and suggestions, but many of them don't have the trained eye to point out how to fix something and keep my style of drawing/art. A good example would be someone saying to an anime artist that the eyes are too big and not natural. It's been two days of class, and so far I'm really enjoying this instructor. She's already sat me down and asked me what I wanted to get out of the class and a bit about my drawing style.

  1. Interestingly, human excrement will totally work well for plants, if it’s composted properly and for a while. The heat produced by a well-maintained compost pile will kill anything ‘bad’ in the excrement, and then it’s just good as regular cow manure or what have you. Easier to get your hands on than tilapia, too.

    1. Growing up on the small farm we had, I asked why we didn’t use human excrement as fertilizer and I just got the “It’s not good for the plants” reason. Never got a more detailed reason as to why. Did a bit of research on the matter later and basically Clint said it all. The heat won’t kill heavy metal content and attracts a type of bacteria that’s not good for vegetables.

  2. There’s a lot of controversy about that, actually (for instance heat won’t kill heavy metal content), but regardless of whether or not it’s possible, my “rural consultants” (including the artist) were adamant that you don’t use feces from humans, or any other animal predator, in the crops you plan to eat.

Beyond that, tilapia also make for good eating, which I don’t think can be said for latrine sludge. 🙂

  3. He knows what zombies tast like?
…I really don’t want to know how he found this out.

  4. Yay for Aquaponic references! Been using fish for a couple of years now to grow veggies in my greenhouse. This is totally how I would survive a zombacalypse.
